Glucagon Hormone Test

A glucagon test is a quantitative measurement of the level of the hormone glucagon in blood plasma. Glucagon is secreted by alpha (α) cells in the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, and its main function is to raise blood glucose levels by stimulating the breakdown of glycogen in the liver and the production of new glucose. The test is primarily used to diagnose glucagonomas and to evaluate glucose regulation disorders.
