The triglyceride/HDL ratio (TG/HDL ratio) is a simple and inexpensive mathematical calculation that divides the triglyceride level by the high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) level. This index (also known as the triglyceride-to-good cholesterol ratio) is a strong and independent indicator of insulin resistance and LDL particle size (a higher TG/HDL ratio indicates an increase in harmful, dense, small particles), and is therefore a powerful predictor of cardiovascular disease that surpasses some traditional measures.
