QuantiFERON-TB Gold Test

Quantiferon-TB (QFT) is an in vitro immunoassay (blood test) that measures the release of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) from white blood cells when stimulated by specific antigens of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It does not detect active disease, but rather the presence of a cellular immune response indicative of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), where the bacteria are present in the body in an inactive state and do not cause symptoms.
