Hidden Hypercalcemia Cause Test - Parathyroid Hormone-Related Protein (PTHrP) Test

This test measures the level of parathyroid hormone-binding protein (PTHrP) in the blood. This protein is produced by some malignant tumors (such as small cell lung cancer and breast cancer) and mimics the effect of parathyroid hormone (PTH) on bones and kidneys, leading to a dangerously high level of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia), a condition known as malignant hypercalcemia syndrome.
