Serum Albumin Test

A serum albumin test measures the concentration of albumin protein, which makes up about 60% of the total proteins in blood plasma. It is synthesized in the liver and has vital functions such as maintaining osmotic pressure, transporting hormones and drugs, and providing a reserve of amino acids. It is used to assess liver function, nutritional status, and to detect kidney disease or malabsorption.
