A serological test detects autoantibodies directed against Ro/SS-A antigens, which are small RNA-bound nuclear proteins. These antibodies are present in several connective tissue diseases and are most strongly associated with Sjögren's syndrome (present in 70–80% of cases) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (present in 30–50% of cases). They are also strongly associated with specific risks to fetuses during pregnancy.
