Measurement of Aspartate Aminotransferase enzyme concentration (AST/GOT) in serum. This enzyme is present in many tissues especially liver, heart, and skeletal muscles. Its elevation indicates damage to one of these tissues, interpreted in conjunction with other enzyme results like ALT.
